Born august 5, 1928, Angelo stella, the eldest of eight children, he was destined to be a musician. his father, professor william angelo stella, a professor of all instruments, made sure his children were well-rounded in the music field.

after learning the basic foundation of music from his father, angelo studied and played the piano, clarinet, trumpet, guitar, and, his main focus, drums.




The one and only video of Angelo Stella performing his famous "Blacklight Drum Solo" in April, 1996, 6 months before his untimely passing.




At the age of fifteen, Angelo's Father formed the very successful family band called "The Stella Brothers".


A few years later, Angelo met Ted Reed and began studying with Ted in New York City.




Angelo served several years in the U.S. Army and played the drums in the 60th and 71st Army Band while stationed in Panama in the mid-1940's. Upon honorable discharge from the service, Angelo once again began hitting the local night spots playing jazz, country, society, rock, ethnic, and back-up floor shows.



During a long and productive career in playing and teaching the drums, Angelo was well-known for introducing double bass drum playing and being the master of drum stick tricks, as well as executing intricate rolls and rhythms.


During the 1960's, Angelo was the originator of the popular "Drumarama", which showcased Angelo's students as well as top-named drummers such as Joe Morello, Roy Burns, and Joe Causatis.



Angelo authored several drumming books, which his son still teaches from today. These books include:

During his many years playing with local and national acts, Angelo amassed an impressive list of bands that he performed with, including:

Angelo continued teaching and playing until his unfortunate passing on October 25, 1996.
